Australian athletes waited four minutes for the final runner in Common Wealth Games 10,000 meter race
Lineo Chaka, the representative from southern African nation of Lesothono ran the last few rounds of women 10,000 meters race on Common Wealth games held on Monday at Carra Stadium was the last one to finish. While she was finishing the race on her own and in last place, three of the Australian athletes stayed on the track waiting for her until she finished the race.
Cellia Sullohern, Madline Hills and Elosie Wellings had already crossed the finish line minutes earlier before the last competitor.
The second last place competitor out of 19 competitors from the race was Scotland’s Beth Potter already finished the race three minutes prior to Chaka. It was the first attempt of Chaka at the 10,000 meter race.
The three Australian athletes after their race were already exhausted they continued to say on the track after finishing their run urging and clapping Chaka to finish her race.
The tired and exhausted Chaka clocked her race at 36 minutes and 55 seconds was met with hugs and applaud from the three athletes making the Common Wealth Games a moniker for “Friendly Games”.

Sullohern, the sixth place winner told reporters that “we are here for each other”. This show of support for Chaka was something that she and her teammates wanted for Chaka.
After race Chaka told reporters that pace was too hard for her and that was the reason she struggled from the very start.
There had been issue of Australian Sportsmanship after the recent Ball Tampering scandal from Australian Cricket players but the recent show of sportsmanship has restored the faith in Australia that sportsmanship qualities are not dead for Australian athletes.
Hills pointed out that while athletes are competing against each other at Common Wealth Games, but they still are in need of support and encouragement for each others as well.
